Barron McCann has celebrated the remarkable loyalty of its workforce, with dedicated employees collectively amassing 180 years of service to the company.
Based in Derby, Barron McCann recently recognised seven team members for their exceptional commitment, from 17 years to over three decades of service. Representing a variety of roles, these employees have played a pivotal part in the company’s growth, success, and unwavering dedication to its clients throughout its 47-year history.
This longevity reflects the company’s strong family culture, which has become one of its defining strengths. Among those recognized is Executive Chairman and Owner Alan Watson, who joined the firm in 1994. Reflecting on the journey, Alan said:
“I’m incredibly proud of Barron McCann’s evolution. When I joined the original Burton-on-Trent office, we had fewer than 100 employees. Today, we’re a group of companies employing almost 600 people, headquartered at a state-of-the-art site in Derby. Our long-serving team members are at the core of this success, and it’s a privilege to celebrate their contributions, inspiring the next generation of long servers!”
Dawn Shuttlewood, UK, Ireland, and EU Service Delivery Manager, has dedicated 27 years to the company. She shared: “Every day is different, and I feel a great sense of achievement in making things better. But for me, it’s the people who make this company exceptional—from the leadership to every team member. I’ve always felt valued and appreciated, which is rare in many workplaces.”
Finance Director Mini Johal, who has been with the firm for 22 years, reminisced about her early days:
“When I started in 2002 as a ‘wee nipper,’ we were still using paper ledger books! Barron McCann is like a family—there’s laughter, tears, and the occasional disagreement, but I wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Mark Shelton, Head of Client Accounts and Service Design, joined as an apprentice 20 years ago and has risen through the ranks. He explained:
“I’ve had multiple roles here, so I didn’t need to leave to progress in my career. Growth happened organically, which has been incredibly rewarding.”
Barron McCann is an independent provider of IT maintenance, installations, and managed services for high-profile clients, including Pets at Home, Iceland, and Papa John’s. The company recently expanded its offerings into the electric vehicle (EV) charging sector, providing IT field services across 17 countries.
Over the past 12 months, the Barron McCann group has seen substantial growth, achieving a collective revenue of £50m while expanding its diverse range of services. These include charity retail solutions, managed services, remote monitoring, retail software, hardware consultancy, and HR and employment law advisory services.
Managing Director Scott Watson praised the long-serving employees, stating:
“It’s rare to see this level of commitment and loyalty in any industry. We’re incredibly grateful for the hard work and dedication shown by these valued members of the Barron McCann family. Their combined 180 years of service have shaped the company we are today and will continue to drive us forward.”
