MP Explores the Future of Technology at Barron McCann Barron McCann was delighted to welcome Derby North MP,
Catherine Atkinson, to our headquarters at the Meteor Centre, where she explored our latest innovations and learned about our commitment to skills development. With over
45 years of experience delivering IT services across
retail, hospitality, and stadium industries in the UK and Europe, Barron McCann continues to push the boundaries of technology. Our latest milestone—the launch of our
Innovation Hub—showcases cutting-edge solutions that are shaping the future of the sector. During her visit, Catherine toured the facility with
Managing Director, Scott Watson, gaining insight into our recent expansion and investment in emerging technologies. One key highlight was our strategic move into the
electric vehicle (EV) charging sector, where we’re leveraging our field engineering expertise to support the UK’s EV infrastructure. By ensuring
99% charge point reliability, we’re playing a crucial role in driving sustainable transport solutions forward. Beyond technology, Catherine also learned about our
dedication to developing local talent. We actively collaborate with institutions such as the
University of Derby and Lees Brook Academy to nurture the next generation of professionals.A great example of this commitment is
Jack Buxton, our Head of IT and Quality, who joined Barron McCann as an apprentice at just 17 years old. His career progression exemplifies our ethos of fostering growth and opportunity. Catherine Atkinson praised Barron McCann’s efforts, stating: “Meeting the demand for the technology of tomorrow depends upon our success in developing a skilled workforce fit for the future. Barron McCann is a brilliant example of the innovative, forward-thinking approach to developing the skills our region and industries need to grow.” She also highlighted our long-standing partnerships, including our
30-year relationship with Iceland Foods, which ensures seamless in-store operations across nearly 1,000 stores nationwide. As part of a
privately owned group of businesses, Barron McCann is proud to contribute to the UK’s growing technology sector.

The wider group, led by Executive Chairman and Owner, Alan Watson, generates approximately £50 million in annual turnover, offering services such as IT hardware provision, installation and maintenance, infrastructure cabling, EV charge point maintenance, and HR advisory services. Scott Watson, Managing Director of Barron McCann, reflected on the visit, saying: “Although Barron McCann operates throughout the UK and Europe, we are proud to be based in Derby, and it was a privilege to welcome Catherine Atkinson to our HQ and specifically our Innovation Hub. “It was a real pleasure to introduce Catherine to Jack Buxton, who started with us 10 years ago as an apprentice at the age of 17. He is living proof that career progression is actively encouraged at Barron McCann. Jack’s journey demonstrates our commitment to nurturing talent and providing opportunities for growth within the company. “We remain dedicated to fostering innovation and development, both in our technology and our people, as we continue to expand our services across the UK and Europe.” As Barron McCann continues to grow, our focus remains on innovation, sustainability, and investing in people. We look forward to building on our success and driving the future of IT services forward. Stay tuned for more updates from Barron McCann!
