Barron McCann Ltd is an independent IT Service Provider offering a range of IT support services from help desk through to rapid response on-site repair and maintenance; our customers are some of the most prestigious names on the high street.

We now have an opportunity for an enthusiastic individual to join us as a Power BI Analyst, based at our Derby site.

General Purpose

As the Power BI Analyst, you will be responsible for development and production of daily, weekly and monthly Management Information reports for use by operational boards and customers and also senior management team for operations. Identifying and highlighting of potential and emerging trends and problems along with proposals for solutions.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Working with key business stakeholders to identify reporting requirements
  • Writing and consolidating reports to specifications
  • Ensuring change control is enforced for all reporting changes.
  • Ensuring all reports are properly documented.
  • Dealing with Customers for both reporting and helping with API integration into the new systems
  • You will be also expected to provide training to staff around the Power BI and Power App’s platform

 Essential Skills

  •  Good knowledge of data modelling, reporting and dashboards using Power BI
  • MS SQL skills
  • DAX and MDX
  • VBA experience is desirable
  • Strong Excel (including pivot tables, formulae, Power Query)
  • Strong MS Power Apps experience
  • Communication and team working; working co-operatively with others to achieve a common goal and communicates information in a clear and concise and manner
  • Problem solving and decision making; analyses information appropriately in order to find best solutions and takes a balanced view to reach logical conclusions and make relevant decisions
  • It would be desirable if you have designing\building\managing middleware for API integration
  • Commitment to results; is committed to obtaining results through taking responsibility, demonstrating a positive attitude, and ensuring quality
  • Experience working with large data sets building algorithms to spot possible trends

 Background & Knowledge

  • Experience of using bespoke systems
  • Microsoft Excel – advanced
  • Expert Knowledge of SQL
  • DAX and MDX
  • Power BI, Microsoft professional
  • Working to tight deadlines and use own initiative
  • Accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to identify and communicate problems
  • Results focused and to be commercially aware
  • Strong organisational and planning skills
  • To remain focused and decisive when working in a pressurised environment
  • Ability to quickly learn new software packages


You will be expected to maintain & develop strong working relationships with all parts of the business.

Due to the nature of the role, some out of hours working may be required, with on call weekend cover.

You will require a full UK driving licence.
